Installing SCO Openserver 5.0.4 and newer on Dell PowerEdge Servers =================================================================== I. Installing Openserver on a Dell PowerEdge 6300/6350 II. Installing Openserver on a Dell Server Equiped with a PERC/PERC2SC III. X-Windows Drivers for Dell PowerEdge Servers IV. MP support for Openserver I. Installing Openserver on a Dell PowerEdge 6300/6350 ======================================================== If you are installing Openserver on a PowerEdge 6300 you will need to add this into your boot string: disable=dptr, efp, piiop, wdex II. Installing Openserver on a Dell Server Equiped with an AMI based PERC ========================================================================== In order to install Openserver to a PERC RAID controller on a Dell Server you will need to load in a BTLD during install. Follow the directions below to create the BTLD diskette and install the driver.` This drivers supports the AMI based controllers: PERC2/SC, PERC2/DC, PERC3/DCL, PERC3/DC, PERC3/QC 1) dd the driver image to a floppy. This can be done under a UNIX based operating system with the dd command (ie. dd if=openserver_perc_v2.1.4.dd of=/dev/fd0) with fd0 being the floppy drive. There are also DOS based programs that will do this such as rawrite (remember, if you are using a DOS based machine without long filename support you will need to use a truncated filename) available from sites like: ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/linux/redhat/dos/rawrite.exe ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/distributions/redhat/dos/rawrite.exe 2) Start the install as normal, but at the BOOT: prompt type the following: defbootstr link=amird Srom=alad(0,5,0) This links in the PERC driver (amird) and specifies that the CDROM is remaining on the Adaptec controller at ID 5. 3) Continue installation as normal, you will be prompted to insert the driver disk for the perc driver later. When adding additional drives under SCO, increment the LUN and not the Target ID. III. X-Windows Drivers for Dell PowerEdge Servers ================================================= 1) Included in this archive is a file (VOL.000.000), copy this file to your server (with SCO Openserver already installed.) 2) Start custom and add a package. Select install from media images and select the directory where you copied the VOL.000.000 file. Then exit custom. 3) Start the video configuration and remove your current setup. Add adapter and the ATI Rage 3D/PRO should be auto selected. Then select your monitor and resolution/color depth. Most likely your system only has 1 Meg of Video RAM so keep this in mind when making your selections. 4) Restart the system. IV.
